Helicopter Slings

SWOS was approached by the 101st Airborne Division Air Operations to help solve the problem of “Brown-out” that occurs in the desert from the sand blown into the air during hovering over external loads. SWOS designed and fabricated a 40 ft extension pennant made of Double Braid Polyester ropes with urethane coated eyes spliced each end. The urethane coatings prevent sand from entering the splice area, which would act as an abrasive between the cover and core strands. The body of the line was coated “Tactical Black” for night operations, also with a proprietary urethane coating. Coupled with a swivel, these lines were used extensively in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, transporting support equipment, Humvees, artillery, food and weapons.
